Do you like photography?
I'd like to see some of your photos
I think we all do want to see some
Why not post it on your QQ zone?
I had a similar experience this semester. Juniors in a English major won't have access to a foreign teacher. What's interesting is that Sophomores have TWO foreign teachers. It doesn't make sense.
There IS a way to get around it if you really care...
Hold English...
YueHan (nice name, hehe)
Thanks for your feedback. I posted this same question on a TESOL maillist, and got similar responses from another couple of teachers in China. Your point about losing face by accepting my advice, though, is one that hadn't occurred to me. Surprise! Even...
I'm not sure as to what's going on lately that I'm now for the 2nd time the one to welcome a new member; where are you guys?! Okay, the new semester's commenced and you are busy; we're also busy with a new semester here, btw! ;-)
Welcome to this teacher's...
John, remember this is China (TiC)! Many things they do here (and don't do), just don't make sense to us foreigners. And often they would just plainly reject our advice or proposals, not because it's not good, but I have the feeling it's got something to do with that cursed...
Thanks guys.
Well, the thing is, as I am so new to teaching in China.. ( 3 months ) maybe thats why I have no ideas.. haha. Hate to admit it!! :/
Welcome to TACA.
I have heard and read that non-native speakers sometimes aren't regarded as highly as native speakers, though, Yuehan and many other people I know in the last city I lived where NNS. A French guy, some guys from Cameroon, some Pakistani guys etc and they found...
It feels quite strange to welcome you to (teaching in) China as you are Chinese yourself (and do the Chinese people not all originate from China?!)! Nonetheless, welcome - at least to this forum! As a Chinese in the English teaching environment, you may at times be discriminated against...
To Denise: I was teaching at a language school called 'Talking Time Teaching Village'! However, I'm not sure whether it still exists as there were talks toward the end of last year of closing down the English language section of the school (which actually formed part of a big chain...
Denise, I hope you are not griping here about some good fortune that came your way?! ;-) I'm kidding (but not about the good fortune to get a curriculum!). I'm not the most experienced here, but let me tell you (from what I can understand), most institutions would not give...
I don't always do this ('cause there are many doing it better and quicker!), but I'd also like to welcome you to this teachers' 'family', Patricia! To be frank, I'm still in a kind of shock after reading your reference to your CV ... And you are preparing to...
My best advice is speak very slowly!!!! Lol
More seriously talk to the Chinese Teacher and find out what vocabulary they are being taught that way you can base your lesson plans around the vocab.
Then in your lesson go through the vocab then do get them...
Dear Rin,
I am so sorry to hear that you are going through such difficulties. I have just been reading through the thoughtful replies, and they help me as well. My story is the same and different, yet I have to agree that a good portion of what is going on is culture shock...
Hi Nader,
I've taught in China off and on since 1997. I've been many places. Is there one particular place that you are interested it?
Patricia

Welcome to TACA!!! Good luck on your upcoming journey have a safe trip!!!
I thought about teaching privately because I didnt think I would be able to find a job lol. I was actually offered a job but I think I would be uncomfortable working in someones home unless I knew them well before hand.
Hi, welcome to TACA!
I have a friend in Qingdao if you want to be put in touch? :)
Qingdao is one of the "must see" places on my list that I have not yet seen! But, I have only been here for 22+ months and China is a big, big country. Keep us posted on your adjustment after you arrive ..someone here can probably help if you if you have any problems.....
Love this bit!!
and if it happens twice I drop the phone out of the classroom window (usually 4 or 5 floors).
So funny. I laughed out loud!!
Thanks Elly,
I would like to know where from. :)
Younchuan,
Thanks for your kind words. The school will have a meeting on Monday. I will definitely ask my FAO about it then. I need to find out what the Chinese teachers do and what they think is appropriate for...
I was in Shaoxing - as was Agatha. Both of us are now in Oz, but I may go back next year.
We had reverse cycle air conditioners in the teachers apartments - but it was rare for other teachers and students, and certainly not in classrooms.
found a toaster in China for less than 20 RMB I think. I'll try and find out where.
