Barack Obama and Used Cars Dominate the Weekly China Roundup

Written by Robert Vance on June 21, 2008 – 11:19 am

The Weekly China Roundup from Sino News on TeachAbroadChina.com

  1. China Vs. Barack Obama – An article that I wrote on Tuesday entitled Is China Ready for Barack Obama?  has been the focus of much attention in the blogosphere this week. Unfortunately, it has also been the focus of some well known racist websites in the United States. What do you think about racism in China? You can weigh after you read the article here…
  2. No Lefties in China – Children who are misfortunate enough to be born left handed in China are generally subjected to a ’righty’ reeducation beginning in primary school. According to my Chinese friends, students in China are expected to write with their right hands in China regardless of their natural ‘hand.’  Still, left handed children are often allowed to eat and even play ping pong with their left hand so many grow up to be ambidextrous.
  3. How to Have a ‘Bon Voyage’ in China — If you’re setting off on your first travels in China, you may want to take a look at an article I wrote this week entitled 10 Tips to Make your Travels in China Safer. It’s all about taking the necessary precautions to make your traveling experience in China safe and enjoyable. You can read all of it right here…
  4. Why There isn’t Much of a Used Car Market in China — One obvious reason. Cars are simply too new in China for a used car market to really have developed very much. China is not like America where people can trade in their cars or buy new ones every other year. Is there a used car market in China? Yes there is. My students refer to it as the “second hand” market. However, according to my friends who drive, there are no warranties on these used cars so people buy them at their own risk. I am told that buying a used car in China is simply a “stupid thing to do.”

See You Next Week…!
