Birthing and Shopping Dominate this Week’s China Roundup

The Weekly China Roundup from RR on TeachAbroadChina.com

  • If you’re a good husband in China and you expect to be there holding your wife’s hand when the baby comes out, think again. In China, husbands are not allowed in the delivery room (unless you have connections or pay a bribe).
  • In Chongqing (West of China), people play the well known Chinese game of Majiang at funerals. I guess a funeral is one big party out there.
  • Tomb Sweeping Day is a day to honor your ancestors and get some shopping done in China. I have never seen a Walmart (or any store China for that matter) so crowded in my life. I must have hit half a dozen people with my shopping cart.
  • Chinese security forces are traveling with the torch for its 20 country tour. That will probably make people think twice about staging any protests.

See You Next Week!

  1. Bill says:

Playing Majiang (Mahjong) in funerals is not restricted to the western China. It is everywhere Majiang is played.
