Dear Jean,
Should I bring a credit card to China or can I get one once I have settled down?
Sincerely,
Jill in London
Jean responds to Rod’s question about using credit cards in China
Dear Jill,
It is probably a good idea to bring at least one credit card with you just in case you have an emergency. While there are still many places in China where you cannot use a credit card, it could come in handy if you need to buy a plane ticket on the internet or pay for a hotel room. To the best of my knowledge, only Chinese citizens can obtain VISA and Mastercard credit cards in China. However, you can certainly sign up for a bank account in China and obtain an ATM card that will allow you to withdraw money throughout the nation. For more information about using money in China, please visit Money Tips for Expats Living in China which contains everything you need to know about using money here.
Thanks for your question!
Sincerely,
Jean
