i read this articles and the feed backs. I think many foreign friends acknowledge of china through the works, and have few Chinese native friends. it is only one aspect of china, not the whole. In business, you confront some person lost in money, their life is corrupted; while most of the common people is simple and real.

I agree molly, it behooves all businesswomen to be able to speak English because it is becoming more or less the universal language. Now in China there are a ton of native dialects and languages, but more and more people can bridge the gap by relying on English.

Prostitution is always the uneducated, abused, and poverty-striken woman’s alternative to starvation. Some women have risen from the world’s oldest profession to become successful in business or the arts. Knowing a language like English may be an advantage in that case.

A corrupt culture?

Well I’m not too interested in the ancient part of Chinese culture. I’m here for business. Some people told me I also should have a look at China besides business and now You tell me the culture is corrupt. So maybe I keep my distance to the Chinese culture. I’m confused.

Have you ever had foreign prostitutes in your Chinese classes? Some of the finest Ukrainian prostitutes in Shenzhen studied at Shenzhen University when I was there. They claimed to be “dancers.” One of them did a commercial for “Big Boss Sauna” that appeared on (I think) Hong Kong TV. It was one of those, “Come over to the Mainland and have a good time” kind of things, with this student and a fat emcee guy who she called “Shenzhen Big Brother.” It was kind of embarrassing. I’ve spoken to some of them and they seemed to be nice girls — they’re probably supporting like ten elderly relatives at home.
