Early Morning in China
Written by Robert Vance on March 18, 2008 – 12:44 pmI’m sitting here early Wednesday morning in China in my small living room listening to the nighttime sounds of my apartment “neighborhood.” All is not peaceful. Cars go flying by every few minutes. People are arguing nearby. Or maybe they are just having an animated talk. It’s hard to tell. I just heard a door slam somewhere. It seems like no one really cares about “being quiet” at 1:45 in the morning. Oh, I think I just heard a dog barking. You’re not supposed to have dogs in these apartments but who’s keeping track, right?
It doesn’t matter. The noise doesn’t bother me. A population of 1.3 billion people (and that’s a conservative estimate) dictates that something is always happening no matter what time of night it is in China, even in a small city. You just have to get used to it. I have. The noise is just a part of life. So goodnight China! Sleep well!
