Earning Your TESOL in China While You Teach English

Have you heard of Will-Excel Tesol,Will Excel Global inc.,and the California Sunshine International language center? They claim you can earn your ESL in China while earning money at the same
time. Any opinion on these companies or others with similar offers?

Dear Gary,
We have heard of these companies which appear to be somewhat connected. While these companies appear to be legitimate, there is very little information to be found about them on the internet. We found this internet address which appears to be the official website of Will-Excel TESOL. One thing that does give us cause for concern is that we could find no phone number on their website. There is only a physical address in Harbin which can be difficult to verify. We have also come across a few comments posted on various message boards regarding these schools which seem to be mostly positive.
My advice to you is to try to personally contact some of the teachers who have been employed by this school. You may also want to visit EslTeachersBoard.com and ask some teachers who are living in Harbin if they have ever heard of this school and if so what its reputation is like. You certainly cannot believe everything that you read on the internet, negative or positive.
There really is not enough information about this school for your to be able to decide whether or not it is a legitimate operation. I would ‘hold back’ on this one until you can know for sure. Perhaps we will hear from some of the teachers or staff members who can shed further light on this school. Do not forget that there are many ways to earn your TESOL certificate. I received by TESOL certificate online for about 90 USD and it was not a sham company. I had to do a lot of writing and it took me a few weeks to complete the course. I did not do as much teaching as I would have liked to but I did learn quite a bit and my TESOL certificate has been accepted without any trouble throughout China. The true learning process of teaching in China begins on your first ‘real’ day of teaching. In my opinion, it is much better to earn your TESOL certificate back in your home country and then teach in China. This will give you many more options for where you can teach.

We always caution people to be wary of schools for which there is little information but we also recognize that there are many new programs out there that are probably legitimate.
