ESL Conversation Topic — Aging

Written by Robert Vance on May 1, 2008 – 1:37 am

Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Yes, getting old might be a depressing subject, but usually the sadder topics are the ones that get my students thinking and communicating.

Warmup: Ask your students if they have grandparents and how they interact with them. Talk to your students about the concept of aging and ask them to give you examples about how aging affects both the mind and body.

Discussion:

  •  Is getting old something to be sad about?
  • What are some advantages of aging?
  • What are some disadvantages of aging?
  • What causes aging?
  • Is there way to age slower?
  • What do you think about cosmetic surgery? It ok to intefere with nature?
  • What is the average life expectancy age in China?
  • How long do you want to live? Do you think people who live past 100 are really happy to have such a long life?
  • Are you afraid of aging?
