ESL Conversation Topic — Dreams

Chinese people dream just like anyone else but what do they dream about? This topic will interest your students and force them to use their imaginations.
Warmup: Introduce the word ‘dream’ and explain to your students that there are different kinds of dreams (daydreaming, having a dream about the future, dreaming while you are asleep). Explain that you are going to be discussing with the class the kind of dreams that you have while you are asleep. If you have time, you can use some information from http://www.meaning-of-dreams.net/.
Questions to Ask and Discuss:
- How often do you have dreams?
- Who or what is in your dreams and what are you usually doing?
- Do you dream about things that you think about or do during the day?
- What is the scariest dream that you have ever had? How about the most pleasant dream?
- Do dreams have any meaning? Is there anything to be gained from paying attention to your dreams?
- Do people have their dreams interpreted in China? If so, where do they go to get this service? Have you done this before?
- Where do dreams come from? Does someone or something send them to your head or is there a physical explanation?
