Internet love is a fascinating ESL Conversation Topic that your Chinese students are sure to enjoy talking about.

Warmup: Give your students a few profiles (in English of course) from a popular dating website like Match.com and go over some of the details. Make sure your students understand any new vocabulary words. Ask your students if they have ever had any ‘romantic’ encounters on the internet.

Discussion:

1. Is Internet dating popular in China? Why or why not?
2. What do you think about Internet love? Can the Internet really bring two people together?
3. What are some advantages and disadvantages of using the Internet to find your soul mate?
4. Do you know of anyone who has ever used the Internet to find a mate?
5. Do you think it is dangerous to meet someone that you have been talking to online?
6. Would you ever consider using the Internet to find love or does that just seem to strange?
7. If using the Internet is not a viable option to find a mate, then what do you think is the best way?
