Written by Robert Vance on August 10, 2008 – 1:37 pmLevel: Beginner to Intermediate ESL Students
Just in time for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, here is an ESL Conversation Topic all about the Games. Have fun!
Warmup: Ask your students if they know who currently has the most medals. You can find this information yourself on a website like ESPN.com. Ask them about any exciting moments that they may have witnessed…
Discussion:
1. What are your feelings about the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games? What was your favorite part?
2. Where did you watch the Olympics? Did you have fun?
3. What is your favorite Olympic Sport? Is China good at your favorite Olympic Sport?
4. What sport is China best at?
5. Have there been any major problems at the Olympics yet or has everything gone well as far as you know?
6. If you could compete in ANY Olympic sport, what sport would you like to compete in?
7. Obviously you hope that China wins the most medals. After China, who else do you hope wins? Which other countries are you rooting for?
8. If China is given the Olympics again someday, what is another city that could host this great world event?
9. Do you know anyone who is at the Olympic Games this week? Have you talked to them? If so, what did they tell you? Share with the rest of us.
10. What will China do with all of the buildings that it has built for the Olympics after the Games are over?
