ESL Conversation Topic — Crime
Written by Robert Vance on May 27, 2008 – 11:37 pmLevel: Intermediate - Advanced
Talking about crime is always an interesting ESL topic because you can go many different ways with the discussion.
Warmup: Print off some information about the 5 most dangerous cities in your home country. Go through the cities and then ask your students to tell you what the 5 most dangerous cities in China are.
Discussion:
- Why is crime higher in some parts of the country than others?
- Have you ever had a crime committed against you? If so, what happened?
- Is the city that you live in dangerous? Why or why not?
- How can you take steps to protect yourself from criminals?
- Why kind of crime do you fear the most? Why?
- Do you think the police do a good job of preventing crime in your city? Why or why not?
- It is often said that women who walk around at night by themselves are more likely to be victims than men. Why do you think this is the case?
