ESL Conversation Topic — Technology

Level: Beginner to Advanced

Technology is an interesting conversation for students of all ages. There are many ways to go with this ESL topic but talking about how technology affects humanity is always an interesting route to take.

Warmup: Ask your students to tell you who Bill Gates is and why he is famous. Ask your students whether or not they think that Mr. Gates has made a positive contribution to society.

Topic Discussion:

• How would you define technology?
• What is the most important technology in our society today?
•  What is your favorite modern technology? Why?
• Does technology have any negative impact on society?
• How does technology save lives? How did it help to save lives in the recent earthquake?
• What technology would you like to see developed in the future? What does society need?
• How has China contributed to the development of technology both now and in the past? What are some famous inventions in China?
• What would like be like without modern technology? Would it be better? Worse? Why?
