Jason,

Relatively speaking, the torch received a much warmer welcome in Japan than in Europe. There were a few incidents (I did see one report of 4 injured people) but according to reports, no one was arrested. The torch is always going to be protested (unless you're in North Korea where protesting is not allowed) but there have been varying degrees of protests and Japan was definitely not the worst.

"The torch was in Japan this weekend and received a suprisingly warm welcome. When I asked my students why there was so little trouble, they explained to me that if the Japanese had showed their true feelings, they probably would have followed the antics of the French. However, the Japanese are afraid that their products will be boycotted in China so they have to behave in order to keep the money flowing. "

Hi Bob,

What the Chinese government said you never believed. But the student said you quickly believed. Did you have evidence that the student told you is the true story?
I told you some facts:
1. almost 20,000 chineses were occupying there to protect the torch relay. They arrived there in the very ealier morning(around 3 or 4 am) to get the best place in case someone else disturbing. That's from the TV is overwhelming.
2. There is 1 Chinese hurt by Tibetan protestors and sent to the hospital.

Tibetan uses the same method to hire Japanese as protestors by giving them 10,000 Yen. In London, Paris and San Francisco, same way.
In Paris, some hired one even forgot the slogan saying "Free Japan" and he was stopped by Tibetan separatist and then changed to "Free Tibet".
