Happy Thoughts…
Written by Robert Vance on March 14, 2008 – 1:57 amI’ve been too negative lately. I’m sorry. You probably don’t particularly enjoy reading about people’s hands getting cut off or car accidents. Bad things do happen but there are many positive aspects that far outweight the negative.
Perhaps what intrigues me most about China is the mix of the old and the new. If you want to see old temples and ancient mountains you never have to look very far. If it’s a meal at McDonalds or a night at the club that you’re looking for, those are readily available as well. In other words, you can get the best of both worlds.
Sometimes after living here for a few months, the novelty can wear off. But every now and then, I’ll be walking down the street and it will hit me like a load of bricks; I am living in China. It’s amazing really. It’s a dream come true for me and something that I should never take for granted.
So, forgive me if I complain now and then. I love my job and I am very fond of the people who I see on a daily basis. Please don’t hesitate if you are thinking about coming to teach here. You will never regret coming to spend some time in China.
