James and Bryant Slam Dunk Team USA Past Valiant China
Written by Robert Vance on August 11, 2008 – 12:34 amMy Chinese students’ gloomy predictions came true in Beijing tonight; Team USA stole the show in its 101-70 victory over China in the Olympic opener for both men’s teams. Still, China made a valiant effort against an an American team that featured the likes of Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and Duane Wade. Through the first half and most of the second half, China held its own thanks to two of its own NBA stars, Yao Ming and Wang Zhi Zhi who never gave up even when the going got tough in the second half. Their enthusiasm as well as the Chinese team’s willingness to fight until the last second kept the crowd chanting “Jia You!” (Let’s go!) the whole way through and kept me in front of the television.
I also give the American team a lot of credit for playing hard until the end and giving the capacity crowd at Beijing basketball arena the show of their lives. Lebron James and Kobe Bryant flew through the air all evening long delivering one spectacular dunk after another. Even if the crowd was dissapointed with the results, it was a night to fondly remember. The estimated 1 billion people who tuned in worldwide were certainly treated to an exciting performance by Team America and a courageous effort by the Chinese.
