Sex Ed and Firemen Dominate the Weekly China Roundup
Written by Robert Vance on April 13, 2008 – 7:45 amThe Weekly China Roundup from RR on TeachAbroadChina.com
- If you call the ‘fire department’ in China, don’t expect a batallion of firemen in red coats and hats to show up at your doorstep. Instead, you may have another kind of batallion fighting your fire; soldiers are the firefighters of China.
- Who better to teach about sex than a doctor, right? Doctors do often teach ’sex ed’ in China’s schools according to my students.
- I woke up one morning last week to hear two ladies yelling at each other in English. That’s not something I hear very often in my neighborhood.
- We’ve all gotten those scam letters from Nigeria, right? A king has died and you can have his money if you’ll just take a trip to Nigeria or give up your bank account number. Well in China, those kind of messages come right to your cell phone. I got a text message this week from a boy claiming to be my son. He said he needed me to send him 6000 RMB to a certain China Construction Bank Account. Well, I guess that’s more interesting than the usual advertising spam I get on my phone.
See you next week!
