Stealing Phones in China

Written by Robert Vance on April 10, 2008 – 7:59 am

If you live in my city there is good news for you if you have recently had your cell phone stolen. Call your number and wait for someone to pick up. If you’re lucky, your friendly neighborhood thief will have sold your phone to a second hand shop.  Of course, you’ll have to buy it back from the shop. But at least you get your phone back right? And these days, with all the wealth flowing in China, there are some people who are carrying around phones worth well over 3000 RMB. Not me. I have a cheap phone made by Haier. Word has it that they make really good washing machines. Like I said, it’s a cheap phone. A thief would probably be doing me a favor to take it off my hands. I have lost two phones in China. How about you? I think the average Chinese person I have talked to has lost about five. Oh well, losing your phone is as much apart of Chinese culture as eating with chopsticks is.
