Introduction to teaching English in China

So you want to teach English in China? First, let’s get down to the brass tacks, ok? Teaching English in China is not for everyone. Are you a person who hates crowds, doesn’t like trying new and “strange foods, insists on having “personal space” at all times, likes being understood the first time, or is obsessed with everything your way? If any of these “conditions” apply to you, you should probably stop reading immediately after this next period. Are you still there? Good. That means that you are adventureous, self-motivated, and ready to expand your horizons. So, you’re excited about going to teach but there is just one problem. You have NO idea where to start! There are so many questions swirling through your mind. How do I go to China? What do I need? Where can I find a job? Is China safe? Is China cold? Will anyone understand me if I go? How much money do I need? Will I meet other foreigners in China? What if I get sick? What if I get homesick? I’ve heard all of these and many more. It’s overwhelming or it can be unless you sit down and take some time to think it all through. The information on this page is designed to help you do just that. Sit down and relax. Read this information through a couple of times and hopefully most of your questions will be answered. If not, check out our forum where you can ask questions of other people who have already “been there and done it.” Either way, don’t be overwhelmed! Teaching English in China is a life changing experience that you shouldn’t pass up.
