The Contract

Written by Robert Vance on March 20, 2008 – 4:46 am

I finally signed a contract today. It’s been over two weeks. They finally got around to giving it to me for review. Almost everything was okay. Except for the section that stated “you shall not work for any of our direct competition within a year after the contract has expired.” No way. Who exactly is their direct competition? I needed them to be more specific so I asked them to “name names” in the contract. They complied and got it back to me today. I signed. Now I am officially employed here.

Don’t skip over sections in your contract. Read every part. Some of these schools will do their best to slip conditions or ridiculous demands into the contract hoping that you won’t notice. Be smart and read the contract a few times. If you have questions, answer them.

There is no such thing as a perfect contract. I certainly didn’t sign a perfect contract today. But it’s pretty decent comparatively speaking and I like the staff here. All in all, it’s a good deal.
