The Great Wall of China
Written by Robert Vance on June 12, 2008 – 8:19 am“He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man”- Chairman Mao”
Many people have claimed that the Great Wall of China can be viewed from outerspace or even on the moon. While that claim is most unlikely untrue, the Great Wall is still a tremendous and enchanting world landmark that should not be missed if you come to China . With a length of over 4000 miles and some sections dating back a few thousands years, the Great Wall of China is an enduring symbol of the constant threat from outside invaders that China has faced throughout its long and rich history. The Great Wall is also a monument to the millions of Chinese slaves who lost their lives during the its construction.
While there are sections of the Great Wall that are still standing in a few places in China, most people choose to visit the Great Wall in Beijing, the capital city of China. The best time to visit the Great Wall is in the springtime when the temperature is comfortable. If you visit in the summertime, make sure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen with you. Visiting in the dead of winter may afford you a beautiful snowy view of the Great Wall, but dress warmly to deal with the extremely cold weather in Beijing.
The best way to see the Great Wall of China is to go on a tour. There are many English speaking tours available for less than 25 USD per person. Be prepared to visit a Jade house or two, but it’s all apart of the tour experience in China.
