no lines whatsoever…
and for that guy/girl Asyro…
maybe banks on big cities are one of the very few exceptions…
the banks here on my city are as rowdy as Vance’s Post Office anecdote…

they have lines in China alright…
but they are parallel to the window/teller/cashier

I have witnessed neat orderly lines in China (banks, Western restaurants, etc). Of course, if there is no line then it is, as you suggest, every man for himself.

Don’t “Cut in line”? Tell me you are kidding. They don’t have lines China, so how can you cut in line? True story – I was at the Post Office in China to buy stamps. There was a mob in front of the window, but I thought I would try to wait it out. I waited and waited, and the mob just pushed in in front of me. Finally is got tired and with my long arms I reached over every one and gave the tell my money to buy stamps. The teller gave me my stamps and no one thought anything odd of what I had done to get service.
